We see it all too often.
We go into a meeting to talk to a business owner about their social media marketing strategy and learn more about their business.
Most companies do social media to some extent, so there must be a person behind the scenes pulling all the strings. When we ask the people we meet with who is doing their social media for them currently, one of many things might come up.
The most common is that they are doing it by themselves – spending their precious time as a small business owner sending out messages when they have a second to breathe.
The other answer we hear a ton is that they have an internal employee doing it for them on top of their other job duties. This individual is often the youngest person in the office that everyone assumes knows social media because they are young and have their own Instagram account.
What do both of those answers have in common? In both situations, social media marketing is an afterthought – Just another thing that gets added to the bottom of the list where it is often forgotten about or not done properly.
It turns into a vicious circle too. Because social media is an afterthought, the results that come from the social channels are not great, which makes someone less likely to spend time on it. Around and around it goes until social media completely gets put aside and is dubbed a failure.

Here is the truth – If you give social media marketing the respect it deserves, it can pay off incredibly for your business and its success.
A good way to start is by recognizing you need help and trusting the professionals. You do it all the time in your personal life. If a task is too hard to complete or it will take you a long time to do it right, you hire a professional to do it for you.
I am very much the type to hire someone to do something for me. I see time as my most valuable asset. While I could teach myself how to fertilize my grass or change my own oil, it makes more sense to save time and hire the professionals to do it for me.
