One of our favorite tools for helping businesses get extra reach on social media is the use of Instagram Reels. While all eyes have been on TikTok over the last year or so, Instagram Reels has quietly been helping businesses grow, gain additional reach, and build new followings.
But much like TikTok, Instagram Reels can be a difficult thing to understand and simply just posting a video from time to time will not be enough to find success. Your business can be doing a better job of leveraging Instagram Reels. Here’s how.
1. Be Consistent
This is true for almost every social media platform, but especially with Instagram Reels. One of the things that the Instagram algorithm rewards creators for is making a consistent flow of content. If the platform sees that you are always creating new content, the greater chance you have of being prioritized on the platform.
Also, being consistent allows you to see what types of content are working well and what aren’t, which means you can better optimize your content. You also just get more at-bats in general. Instagram is a platform where one video could not do well at all, and the next could go viral. You need to give yourself as many chances as you can to go viral.
2. Engage With Other Creators And Trending Videos
One strategy you can do to get higher reach from your account is to engage with other creators. Many people just post videos and call it a day, but there is so much more opportunity than that! For example, let’s say that you see a video related to your industry that was recently posted, so you leave a comment. That video could end up with thousands or even millions of views. If the creator likes your comment or you really are one of the first ones to engage, there could be thousands of people that see your comment and your brand.
A well-placed and well-timed comment can give people a taste of who you are and lead to more views on your content, simply by intersecting with others. It is important though to be intentional with this. Your comment actually needs to add value to the conversation to be noticed, a couple of emojis just won’t do!
3. Find Things That Are Trending Specifically On Reels
A major part of social media success comes from knowing and understanding what is trending on the platforms that you are posting on. Platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels prioritize content based on what users are interested in at that moment, making it important to work trends into your overall strategy.
A mistake that many people make is they look directly at TikTok to find these trends, and think that if something is trending on TikTok, it is also trending on Instagram. While some of the time this might be true, it is more than likely that Instagram is not also prioritizing that same content and there is something else that would be performing better. When looking for content to create on Instagram Reels, it is important to realize that it is a unique content platform that has its own trends, popular content, and influencer.
4. Intentionally Use The Platform
So you want to be consistent, you want to engage with creators, and you want to find trending videos…. But how do you do that? What it comes down to is intentionally using the platforms.
Now listen, we don’t want to ruin the fun of sitting down and scrolling through some Instagram Reels for some enjoyment. However, if you plan to use Instagram Reels in a way that can have the best impact on your business, you need to spend time intentionally using the platform looking for ideas and trends.
You would be amazed at how much you can learn just from sitting down and looking at videos for just 20 minutes. As you find videos and trends that you see over and over, save those posts to your Instagram accounts, save the audio, or even take a pen and paper and write down some of the good ideas that you see. For some, this almost seems like you’re stealing content, however, being able to find trends and ideas and put your own twist is really what these platforms want to keep people entertained.
5. Have A Little Fun With It
At the end of the day, to be successful with Instagram Reels, you have to enjoy it and have some fun. What is really great about creating short video content is that you get to be super creative and you can do it in only a few seconds. Most of the time, you don’t really have to worry much about making something of high quality. People are expecting to see content that is simply filmed on a mobile device and might not be perfect, which makes doing a Reel strategy a really easy thing to start and execute.
